History Of The Standard Poodle

companions and heros

"FROU-FROU'' DOGS? I DONT THINK SO!!!

Did you know that standard poodles participated in several wars? The 17th century Prince Rupert of Rhine owned a white standard poodle named boy. Boy was his constant companion including joining him on the battlefield in 1642-1651. The dog became famous, boy was said to have magical powers. I don't know about this but smart and conpassanet is for sure. Boy was sadly killed during the battle of marston moor.

war heros poodles

1800s there was a famous war poodle named moustache. Moustache a black standard poodle started out as a family pet turned hero when he joined the french war. He was said to have been present at the battle of marengo, during witch time he lost a war, wow what a dog sorry back to the history of poodles. Moustache was said to engaged with the enemy, alerted his troops to attacks and had snatched flags to lift the morale of his troops. Moustache was unfortunately was killed in battle by a cannonball. Moustache was not the only war poodle at this time. Mouton, Barbuche, Buff, Magrita,Monffino,Mohiloff,Sancho and Thoutou are just a few of the names of brave war poodles at the time.

sled dog poodles

.Fast forward to spring 1942 when 32 official breeds were used by the army, standard poodles were included. One year later 18 breeds were cut from this list but not poodles they remained for another year when they were cut only because of the coat needs. Even though they were cut from the list they were still used as guard dogs on the homefront for military installations.Amazing right well that's not all standard poodles have also been used as sled dogs and did pretty great at it. john suter seen the potential in these dogs and went for it, he started training a team of poodles to run in the 1100 mile iditarod sled dog race. He placed 38th out of 52 racers. The team entered and raced in 1989,1990,1991.This just goes to show the strength and endurance of this amazing breed. These dogs have since done other amazing things like.Show biz , performers in circuses, hunters, guardians, search and rescue, police dogs, service dogs and family pets. These dogs are so smart and compassionate that they can do anything the sky is the limit for these dogs. I as a breeder and pet owner I couldn't see myself having any other breed except standard poodles. (all information posted about the history can be found online)
